Ventnor Sketchers @ Ventnor Exchange

A fortnightly morning art group at the Exchange!

A chance to come and meet some new people in a nice relaxed environment with a cup of tea or coffee, Jackie will be on hand as a facilitator for you to relax and sketch anything that takes your fancy.

The aim of the group is for people interested in sketching, both indoors and outdoors to draw on location in a loose, relaxed style.

The concept of urban sketching is a simple one, getting into the habit of regular sketching and moving away from accuracy. It’s a chance to slow down, observe and sketch in a relaxed and friendly group. No experience is necessary; all abilities are welcome.

The term ‘urban sketching’ was coined by artist and journalist Gabriel Companario in 2007 who shared his sketches on social media as a collaborative online journal and there are now hundreds of groups around the world and even international symposiums that bring sketchers to host cities and towns. Urban sketching encourages the use of a notebook, containing watercolour paper on which to sketch using both a fine tip and a thick tip fine liner ink pen. Erasing any lines is discouraged in order to free up creativity. If you wish to add colour you might want to bring a travel water colour set with you, and a paintbrush.

Our lovely town of Ventnor is a perfect studio and it would be great to hear your ideas for spaces to sketch.

If the weather is fair, the group may go for a wander around outside to find some sketching inspiration!

Fortnightly on Mondays, 9:30am – 11am (see Ventnor Exchange website for dates)
